"Practicality"

Life is beautiful. The innocent and carefree manner in which the little child is walking represents for me the spirit with which life is to be lived. I agree that the world outside is tough, real tough and one has to be "practical" while dealing with others. I don't deny it but being practical should mean being careful of others intention and succeeding in one's desired path.

However, the word "practical" seems to be more identified with cunningness and back-stabbing. One should realize that inculcating these traits ultimately leads one to have a very suspicious mindset resulting in development of jealousy and a restless mind.

For me, "practical" means -

i) Having a developed sense of observation wherein we are able to perceive others intentions by observing what others are saying both verbally and non-verbally.

ii) Being able to save money for a rainy day.

iii) Having a healthy lifestyle - daily meditation, walking / jogging, exercise, balanced diet routine.

iv) Giving oneself time out and reading books according to his taste.

v) Planning beforehand to avoid last minute stress.

vi) Living within one's means & absolutely avoiding loans of any kind except I suppose home loans.

vii) Teaching our children the virtues of patience, perseverance and humility.

For me the concept of practicality goes beyond just being able to get the best deal out of an offer. I have just listed out seven instances wherein one should be practical. The list is not exhaustive and one can add more according to his situation in life.
These are some of my thoughts on being practical in today's world. I would love to hear more from you on this.
